James J. O'Brien is Founding Member of O'Brien Law LLC. Jim is an accomplished counselor in the area of human resources law to business executives in operations, management and human resources, from proactive legal advice to businesses on measures which employers can take to avoid or limit exposure to employment-related claims, to forceful advocacy in defense of claims when they do arise. Jim provides counsel concerning government audits and current government enforcement trends, including actions by the US Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division, EEOC, Department of Justice Immigrant and Employee Rights investigations, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The distinguishing feature of Jim’s counsel to businesses is a highly practical, outcome-based approach within the bounds of the law – “the shortest route to daylight.”

Mr. O'Brien holds a Juris Doctor degree from The Columbus School of Law at The Catholic University of America and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He is a member of the Bar of the Court of Appeals of the District of Columbia, the Court of Appeals of Maryland and the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Mr. O'Brien is also a member of the American Bar Association, and a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.


In service to others, Mr. O'Brien dedicates substantial time to volunteering as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Christian Relief Services Charities, Inc., a nonprofit organization serving the charitable needs of Native Americans, domestic and international relief, and housing for low income Americans, through its programs Running Strong for American Indian YouthBread & Water for Africa, and Americans Helping Americans.
